Will's Energy Blog I'm Will. I grew up in the Yorkshire Dales - a great part of the world, but being the middle of nowhere when growing up it is sometimes difficult. I stayed there until completing my A-levels after which I spent a year working in Doncaster on the Year In Industry. I spent four great years at the University of York gaining an MEng in computer systems and software engineering. Half my waking hours were spent studying, the other half spent enjoying myself - the ideal "life-life" balance of industrious dedication to learning and creative relaxation. Since 2004 I've been working with British Energy, initially on their 2 year, 4x6 month placement, graduate training scheme. It gave me the knowledge and skills to pursue a fruitful career in the nuclear and energy industries. I now work in the central engineering support functions in Gloucester, designing and engineering solutions to many of the challenging issues our stations have. Throughout this I've used my free time to enjoy myself, going on adventurous holidays around Europe, improving my car mechanics skills to keep my car going, spending time with those who make my life better and generally making sure I maintain my life-life balance.

Nell's blog Nell Barrie works in science communication. She studied biology at Oxford University and found herself more interested in writing essays explaining biology than in pursuing research, so she decided to try to find a career in communicating science. Following work experience at The Daily Telegraph, BBC Wildlife magazine and at the website Spiked-Online, she found a job at the Science Museum's Dana Centre, where she now works part-time for The European Dana Alliance for the Brain, an organisation that promotes brain research. She's currently studying for a masters in science communication at Imperial College. Nell has also taught science in a Catholic girls' school.

Doug's blog
Hello, my name is Doug Conquest and I’m a Materials and Corrosion Engineer for Shell UK currently based at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex near Chester in the North West. The main purpose of my role is to support the Inspection Department who act as an independent body on site to advise the refinery on the integrity of its plant. There are many, many facets to this job that I will be illustrating through the blog. I’ve been in my present job for three years now and am about to move to Shell’s consulting division, Shell Global Solutions International (SGSI), based in Amsterdam, and I can’t wait! How did I get to this point in my life? Well to cut a long story short I studied Materials Engineering at Brunel University before completing a PhD on the excellent but sadly now defunct Postgraduate Training Partnership (PTP) scheme with the University of Cambridge and TWI Ltd. Away from refineries my interests include road and fell (mountain) running, anything to do with cars and motorbikes and (reluctantly) endless DIY.

Barbara's blog
Barbara Axt talks a lot. So much that soon she found out spoken words were not enough – and started writing, eventually becoming a journalist. The popularisation of internet (the greatest invention ever, followed from a distance by ready-to-eat pasta) brought new opportunities of spreading her numerous opinions all around the world. If it is good or bad, judge for yourself.

Vimal's Blog Hi, I am Vimal, working as a Graduate Process Engineer @ M W Kellogg Ltd. I have got masters degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from India. I have been in London since last 3 years and the journey so far has been very much smooth and enjoyable – I love this place. My interests include reading, listening music and traveling. I love to move around and discover new places. My biggest surprise came when I was awarded gold medal from the University for securing top position during my bachelor’s degree. Right now I am working on Shell Pearl GTL project. Apart from chemical engineering I do love designing websites and doing their search engine optimization (which also gives me break from chemical engineering). It’s really exciting how major search engines perform the ranking of the websites.
