iPlayer opens
The TV Corporation has released figures that PS3 owners “now account for a massive 10 per cent of all iPlayer viewing,” BBC online media spokesperson, Anthony Rose, told hexus.gaming.net.
Seventy per cent of viewers watch iPlayer on the PC and 8.5 per cent of viewers use the service on Apple computers.
The BBC are said to have been approached by third party channels keen to use the online application and the director of future technology at the BBC, Erik Huggers, has revealed that the iPlayer platform will become an Open Player that will allow other channels from around the world to stream their TV programmes.
He said: “It is not a concept of aggregation, but federation. It is about making sure each of the broadcasters around the world can continue to have a direct relationship with their users.”
