Digital systems are go
Ofcom has reported for the second quarter of 2008 that 88 per cent of all UK households have switched to digital television. This report has come a month before Selkirk in the Scottish borders is to become the first region in the UK to run all digital TV.
This number is made up of about 840,000 homes using free satellite on their main television set, such as from BSkyB, BBC/ITV or other vendors.
The number of homes with Freeview on their main set reached 16.7 million by the end of June; helped in part, Ofcom says, by a "surge" in sales of TVs with built-in Freeview receivers. 1.4 million such television sets were bought between April and June
Furthermore, more than half (19.1 million) of the 35 million secondary sets have now been converted to digital, said the Office of Communications (Ofcom) - the regulator of broadcasting in the UK.
