Paris, Je T'Aime11.50pm, Sky Movies Premiere(Olivier Assayas, etc, 2006)

Eighteen vignettes, by different directors, on the subject of love in the city of love. The results are inevitably patchy, but taken all together make for a fascinating portrait of Paris. Among the best are the Coen brothers' tale of American tourist Steve Buscemi on the Metro, a poignant conversation between parting lovers Gena Rowlands and Ben Gazzara, and Wes Craven's comic resurrection of Oscar Wilde in a graveyard.

Bringing Out the Dead 12.15am, Sky Movies Drama (Martin Scorsese, 1999)

This tale of a strung-out paramedic cruising the mean streets of New York is in some ways a companion piece to Scorsese's Taxi Driver. Nicolas Cage plays an ambulanceman haunted by the death of a young woman and picking up the pieces from all sorts of violence; Van Morrison's TB Sheets sets the tone perfectly.

Arlington Road 1.15am, Film4(Mark Pellington, 1999)

Politics lecturer Jeff Bridges has his doubts about new neighbours Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack, but is himself a loose cannon, grieving for his murdered FBI-agent wife and preaching a radical agenda at college. So is he paranoid, or are the cheesy couple across the street really terrorists? Pellington keeps us guessing in a clever thriller that's gained resonance since 9/11.
