Live long and prosper
The study – called 50 active years after 50 – highlights that fact that, in developed nations, over half of children being born now will live up to 100 years old. While we will be living longer, however, we will still be subject to physical degeneration. This is where advanced healthcare technologies come in.
Exploring fields such as tissue engineering and joint replacement, the initiative – coordinated by the University of Leeds Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (iMBE) – will help accelerate discoveries into working items.
Research councils, charity and industry fund the programme.
