New package targets young customers with an ‘invite only’ deal.

Blyk, a new mobile phone service just launched in the UK, offers customers between the ages of 16 and 24 free mobile phone calls and texts if they opt in to receive six adverts a day on their phones.

The network operator, MVNO, is being carried on the Orange network. Users will have to already have an MMS-enabled handset.

New users have to be invited to join by existing customers. The service is being seen as a logical extension of the social networking phenomenon.

The deal

The package includes 43 minutes talk-time and 217 texts, with the deal being terminated on the user’s 25th birthday.

At the time of launch, Blyk has partnered with 45 advertisers including Sony Ericsson, Coca Cola, SonyBMG, i-play, Ford, Adidas and Mastercard.

Speaking at the launch event this morning, the company said that they were targeting seven million users in the UK and that the ‘free allowance’ was in line with the average use of their target group.
