scenta i-Seminars

scenta i-Seminars offers an innovative way for organisations to communicate with their members interactively and in real-time, irrespective of where they are located.

This is a powerful new service that allows scenta’s partner organisations to create and run online seminars for their members. It has been created as the result of a major partnership between scenta and Interwise, a world leader in the supply of this technology.

The seminars are highly interactive and support all forms of media including video streaming, Powerpoint presentations, documents such as Word, Excel or Acrobat. A two-way Internet audio link between the presenter and all members of the audience – allowing people to ask questions in real time – creates an engaging experience for all.

Seminars can be set up quickly and easily by the presenter using a simple online tool. Users need nothing more elaborate than a PC with a 56Kbit/s dial-up Internet connection, a set of speakers and a microphone. Software to connect the user to the session is downloaded and installed by the system immediately prior to the start of the event.
 
There is no limit to the number of people who can log onto the event, and no limit to the number of events that the partner organisation can host.

The benefits are clear: with such a powerful and easy-to-use service, any organisation can dramatically increase both the volume and the quality of communication with its members or customers – and, at the same time, it can be far more inclusive for those who are based in distant locations – not to mention the ability to save money on running physical conferences and seminars.

Major corporations, such as Microsoft, already use this technology to support communications with their major customers and technology partners. Access does not usually come cheap. scenta and Interwise have, however, created a unique alliance to bring this service to the SET community for an extremely affordable price.

New Services

Several additional services are planned for 2004. This will include a secure online storage for all types of files and documents. The service will allow users to upload, store and share documents with their colleagues and peers anywhere in the world.

Partnerships

scenta is developing new partnerships to bring these services to the wider SET community. Examples already include:

• The Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) uses i-Seminars in order to bring its Special Interest Group meetings to a far wider audience. The organisation now regularly holds meetings which allow users from all over the UK and abroad to attend virtually using the scenta i-Seminars tool. Feedback from members as far away as New York state, USA has been universally positive.
• The Thomas Telford organisation has also adopted i-Seminars in order to bring its training capabilities to a far wider audience. Again, early indications have been extremely positive as the case study shows.
