Wind powered diesel
Ford has announced that they are to add a third wind turbine to their plant at Dagenham, which will power the expansion of its diesel engine manufacturing plant.
The turbine, which is being supplied by Ecotricity, has allowed Dagenham’s Diesel Centre to stay 100 per cent wind powered while it produces the new, ultra efficient 1.4/1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engine line.
ECOnetic go to London
The engine, which will power certain Fiesta, Fusion and Focus models, will be exempt from London’s congestion charge (vehicles which emit less than 120g/k will get a total discount from October).
Speaking about the plant Roelant de Waardj, Ford of Britain’s chairman and managing director, commented: "Ford Dagenham is at the forefront of sustainable business – in both its manufacturing technology and its products. Low emission cars are increasingly in demand, with Ford's ECOnetic range leading on performance and production."
