Equation

    Name Energy Gain

    Equation F = eV

    Definition of terms

F = energy, e = charge, V = voltage

    Comments

  The energy F gained by a particle of charge e when accelerated by a potential difference V is equal to F = eV .

  This leads to the definition of the electron volt, which is the energy acquired by an electron which has been accelerated through a potential difference of 1 volt.
