Equation

    Name

Frequency (Closed Tube)

    Equation f = c 4 l ( 2 n + 1 )

    Definition of terms

f = frequency, c = speed of sound, l = length of tube, n = integer ≥ 1

    Comments

  In a closed tube, the fundamental frequency of the sound waves is c 4 l . Only odd integer multiples (1, 3, 5...) of this frequency are present. Another way of saying this is that only the odd harmonics are present.
