Equation

    Name Resistivity

    Equation E = ρ J ρ = R A l

    Definition of terms E = electric field strength, ρ = resistivity, J = current density, R = resistance, A = cross-sectional area, l = length

    Comments

The resistivity is defined related to the E and J fields as above. It is the reciprocal of conductivity.

The resistivity ρ of a piece of wire with cross-sectional area A and length l , is as given in the second equation above.
