Equation

    Name Angular Magnification

    Equation A M = α a α u = ( 1 - S i f ) d 0 L

Definition of terms AM = angular magnification, αa = angle subtended by image, αu= angle subtended by image, si = distance from lens to image, f = focal length of lens, d0 = distance from eye to near point, L = distance from eye to image

Comments   The angular magnification of a visual instrument is defined as the ratio of the size of the retinal image as seen through the instrument to the size of the retinal image as seen by the unaided eye at normal viewing distance, which we take to be d 0 , the near point.
