Equation

    Name Beat Frequency

    Equation ω beat = ω 1 - ω 2

Definition of terms ωbeat = beat frequency, ω1 , ω2 = frequencies of EM waves

Comments   If two electromagnetic waves of frequency ω1 and ω2 are superposed (added), then the combined intensity will oscillate with a frequency ωbeat = ω1 − ω2. This is known as beating, and this frequency is known as the beat frequency.
