Comments |
The Bohr magneton is a measure of magnetic dipole moment.
It is derived in the Bohr model of the atom where the angular momentum of an electron orbiting a nucleus corresponds to a current loop, which thus has a magnetic dipole moment equal to the Bohr magneton. This is not a physical model as there is also a contribution from the intrinsic angular momentum (or spin) of an electron.
The magnetic moment of any system can be considered as g times the Bohr magneton, where g is known as the Landé g -factor of the system. |
