Equation

    Name Bouguer Law of Absorption

    Equation φ = φ 0 exp ( - α x )

    Definition of terms φ = intensity of light at position x , φ0= intensity of light at x = 0, α = absorptivity, x = position

Comments   If a block of uniform matter is illuminated by light of intensity φ0, then after the light has travelled a distance x , the intensity will be φ as given.
