Equation

    Name Circular Orbit (charged particles), cyclotron frequency

    Equation ω = B e m

    Definition of terms

ω = cyclotron frequency, B = magnetic field, e = charge of particle, m = mass of particle

    Comments   For a charged particle in a magnetic field, the force is equal to Bev . By centripetal force arguments, this must be equal to mv2/r or 2r. By cancelling terms, the equation above, which gives the angular frequency of a particle in a circular orbit, is obtained.
