Douglas Conquest
Hello, my name is Doug Conquest and I’m a Materials and Corrosion Engineer for Shell UK currently based at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex near Chester in the North West. The main purpose of my role is to support the Inspection Department who act as an independent body on site to advise the refinery on the integrity of its plant. I’ve been in my present job for three years now and am about to move to Shell’s consulting division, Shell Global Solutions International (SGSI), based in Amsterdam, and I can’t wait!

Gareth Pemberton
Gareth Pemberton AIMECHE. Graduated 2004 from Warwick University with a masters in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Warwick he participated in Formula Student and has since been a design judge for the event.

Barbara Axt
Barbara Axt talks a lot. So much that soon she found out spoken words were not enough – and started writing, eventually becoming a journalist. The popularisation of internet (the greatest invention ever, followed from a distance by ready-to-eat pasta) brought new opportunities of spreading her numerous opinions all around the world. Edward Hanna
Dr. Edward Hanna has been interested in meteorology since age 7 (in 1981!) when he drew his first temperature graph! Edward went on to complete a BSc in Planetary Science from University College London in 1995 and PhD in Satellite Remote Sensing of Antarctic Sea Ice and Climatic Couplings at the University of Bristol in 1998.

Dr Joanne Lunn
Joanne is a nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation. She joined the Foundation in 2005 after completing her Ph.D studying the association between diets high in red meat and the risk of colorectal cancer at the MRC Dunn Human Nutrition Unit in Cambridge. Joanne is involved in many aspects of the Foundation’s work and has written a number of reviews on topics including omega 3 fatty acids, wholegrain and dietary trends.

Simon Choppin
After completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with Mathematics at Nottingham University Simon thought he’d get his teeth stuck into a PhD. Fancying himself as a bit of an athlete, Simon chose a PhD in Sports Engineering in the area of tennis research, three years on he finds himself near completion, wondering why no-one’s rumbled him yet.

Daniel Florêncio
Daniel Florêncio is a Brazilian filmmaker and scriptwriter. He earned his BA in Radio and TV from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, and his MA in Art and Media Practice from the University of Westminster, London, were he still resides.

Nell Barrie
Nell Barrie works in science communication. She studied biology at Oxford University and found herself more interested in writing essays explaining biology than in pursuing research, so she decided to try to find a career in communicating science. She now works part-time for The European Dana Alliance for the Brain, an organisation that promotes brain research.

Bryan Evans
Bryan has worked for many years in the music industry, inspired initially by playing in bands and studying technology at university level, then as a Studio Recording Engineer (ending up at Tony Visconti’s Good Earth Studio working with many well known artists and producers, and subsequently as a freelance Engineer/Producer).

Sam Salt
Sam Salt is Head of Computing Programmes at the University of Derby. He teaches artificial intelligence, databases and systems analysis as well as managing the day to day operations of the School. As a “computer expert” he claims not to be interested in computing. He sees himself as a technologist who works to find solutions to business problems.

Mark Glover
I'm Mark, and have been working as Performance Engineer for Metronet's Metropolitan Line fleet since the start of 2007. I joined Metronet onto their MPDS training scheme immediately after graduation from Hull in 2002. After two years as a trainee, on placements all around the company, I moved to work permanently for fleet.

Vimal Nagori
Hi, I am Vimal, working as a Graduate Process Engineer @ M W Kellogg Ltd. I have got masters degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from India. I have been in London since last 3 years and the journey so far has been very much smooth and enjoyable – I love this place. My interests include reading, listening music and traveling. I love to move around and discover new places. My biggest surprise came when I was awarded gold medal from the University for securing top position during my bachelor’s degree. Right now I am working on Shell Pearl GTL project. Apart from chemical engineering I do love designing websites and doing their search engine optimization (which also gives me break from chemical engineering). It’s really exciting how major search engines perform the ranking of the websites.

Dan Croucher
Dan is a Producer at a video game development company called Relentless Software, making games for Sony’s PlayStation. Previous to this he has worked in game localisation and design and development of Interactive TV games. Also International VAT recovery, but we don’t talk about that last one.
